Comments about Stansted 10K Fun Run 2nd July 2006

New!  Thank you to all the organisors - it was my first race, and though I found it incredibly hard work it has made me determined to run more in the future.  Jen Cole, Bishop’s Stortford

New!  I loved it. My Hungarian girlfriend came too - she already did the London marathon last year. I saw a lot of friends i haven’t seen in 15 years or so. It was amazing!!  Nick Jacob, London

Just wanted to say that the run this year was another success. Even though it was hot and I did a rubbish time, I really enjoyed it. Thanks to all for the organisation, it was staged beautifully. I really appreciated all the water stations!  Beverley Curran, Bishop’s Stortford

I really enjoyed the day although it was a bit hot!  Wish I could say the same for my partner but he collapsed in a sweaty heap at the finish and it took about ten minutes for me to get a word out of him.  He moaned like anything but I'm sure it's just a man’s way of saying although it was hard going in some places he's glad he did it!! Sarah Wiggins, Harlow

Even though extremely hot weather it was an enjoyable run, and the atmosphere of the event was quite friendly and warm.  We deserve travelling all the way from London and it is pity that you only hold it every other year. In the end my daughter has got an unexpected prize (1st girl under 16) which was her first experience in running competition. I am sure that it is going to be a huge encouragement after coming to U.K. since last August for her. Many thanks and we will be looking forward to seeing you on the next event. My daughter really liked the t-shirt!  Sanddune, London (originally from Japan)

Just to say thank you for organising such a good event.  The hot weather and undulating route made it a challenging race but very enjoyable.  Being locals, we often run the footpaths in the area, so it was nice to be able to show it off to other runners.  This was our first time for doing the Stansted 10K as it often coincides with holidays, however, we'll try and make it a regular event in the future.  John & Jo Newbury, Stansted

We were asked to come to the race by a new found friend of ours, Paul D.  He was planning on doing the race, and asked us to come along.  Unbeknownst to us, there were sooo many hills, but we still had a great time seeing the English countryside.  We're definitely planning on coming back if we're in the area in two years.  :):) Jamie & Wade Gerdemann, USA

Thank you for an excellent race, in spite of the hills and the heat combining to make it comfortably my worse time ever for a 10K!!  Plenty of enthusiastic marshalls and water stations helped.  Martin Lodge, Chelmsford

Just three words sum my feelings up about this brilliant little local bash..... make it annual.  Greg Hart

New! Thanks for the very well organised, as usual, race.  Extremely hot but we can't blame you for that!  Extra watering holes greatly appreciated.  See you in 2 years time!  George Thomas

It was very hot running yesterday and I was really glad of all the water available on the course and have the sponges at the end helped although I wouldn't have known that was there had not a bunch of Stortford runners been around it.  I can't think of any negative comments apart from the weather but 2 years ago it wasn't hot at all.  I was going to suggest having the race start earlier but I'm not sure that would have made much difference yesterday.  The run was well marshalled, so no complaints.  Viv Law

Best tip I can think to give the organisers is to run the race backwards .. get through the icky hills, fields etc early!  David McGurk

It would be nice to have more ladies toilets. It's great from the pub to let us in, but just 1 additional ladies portaloos today would have made the pre-race situation really much easier. It would also be nice to have the prize giving a bit earlier, say
12:30 instead of 1pm. A earlier start could help avoiding the worst of the heat.

It was great to have so many waterstation out there and plenty of water afterwards. We really needed it today. I like the route, it's tough (esp. in this heat) but scenic. The race has always a nice post-race atmosphere with BBQ, ice-cream, the pub selling beer and the chance to get a massage. So overall a very positive experience.  Christine Tanner (Ladies Winner)

Stewarding / signposting could have been better for the front runners as it wasn't always clear (though it helped me in the end i guess).  Excellent course otherwise.  Steve Prosser (Winner)

Was a great race, very well organised, plenty of water on a very very hot day, brilliant BBQ at the end, the only downside, I was a bit disappointed to get an elastic band round a bottle of water for all my efforts. Would definitely be back again in 2 years time.  Ian Rodgers

We thought it was a very well organised run - and the extra water stations were very much appreciated.  Helen and Bill Brunton

Once again a lovely country run, even if it was too hot!  I was pleased to see the additional water stations, especially over the second half of the race, that was good thinking as I expect many of us would suffered a lot without them.  I enjoyed getting sprayed with water by the "sponge man" after the run, nice touch!

I though you had lots of marshals, more than needed.  The only negative comment is the last water station, just after the farm, was positioned just before a right turn. I grabbed my water, then almost ran over the marshal who was trying to get me to turn right. The water station needed to be 30 yards before the right turn.  Ian McClymont

I think I enjoyed the race!!  The water stations were excellent and a very welcome sight and the marshals lovely.  The only criticism that I would make were the plastic bands that we got given at the finish.  I completely understand that most of the entry money went towards the charities which is correct and to be honest I'd preferred to have not been given anything than one of those bands!  Sorry to sound ungrateful but what are you meant to do with it?!!  Sarah Croot

Tough course but fun! Nicky Hunt

I would like to say that the race was well organised and marshalled with plenty of water stations.  As the weather was exceptionally hot it would have been nice to have had a few sponges out on the race especially for those who took longer to run/walk the race.  I thought the 'extra' sticky number was personally unnecessary, I passed a few loose ones on the ground, I would suggest the organisers saves the expense of producing these for next year's race.  Karen Wilson
