This year's run

Our Previous Run

Recycling Project

The Stansted Fun Run started in 1986 as part of Sport Aid, a follow on to the Bob Geldof Band Aid campaign to raise the nation’s awareness of famine around the World. A similar event was arranged a couple of years later, and then it became a yearly event, with the Fun Run 2000 being the 11th such event.

The first few runs attracted less than a hundred entrants and the route was around Stansted village. Several years ago the route was changed to include more ‘cross country’ and it now starts in the village, goes to Farnham, across the Hassobury Estate, and then back to Stansted. Since some of this is private land, we are indebted to the owners of the Hassobury Estate for their continued generosity in allowing us to route the run over their land. Each year, there are between 350 and 420 entrants, who come from all over the country. In 2004, they came from such far flung places as Glasgow, Hampshire, Kent, Berkshire, Suffolk and Northamptonshire.  In 2006, we introduced on-line entry, which was well used (including one entry from America) – and shows how the event has developed from a small venture into a very large one. Due to the enormous amount of work now required to organise the event, the Fun Run now takes place every 2 years.
